Mosque [X 1984], Keizerstraat 88
Jama Masjid - Surinamese Islamic Society [X 1984]
Old mosque in 1966
The Surinamese Islamic Society was founded in 1929 and the old mosque dates from the following years (inauguration August 1932).
It was a rectangular building of 9 meters wide, built in the depth, with 4 octagonal towers. In style it stayed close to the Surinamese tradition of constructing in timber which in those days was still booming enough to be of influence on this relatively young building.
On July 27, 1984 the present mosque, a much larger and more modern building, was inaugurated.
