Do Patagonia sweatshirts shrink?
Here’s why: the Patagonia staff weren‘t sure if it would shrink in the wash or dryer (it did just a little, I can tell when the zippers do the “bacon” curl). I washed on a tap cold normal cycle and medium/low heat in the dryer. The slight shrinkage didn’t affect the wear or fit — I still love this sweater.

Machine dry on no to low heat (may take a few cycles) with two to three clean tennis balls added to the dryer to restore fluff. DO NOT bleach, iron or use fabric softener. Hey Samantha, we wouldn’t suggest this because Synchillas are made of polyester which doesn’t tend to shrink. Also, high heat and and hot water can cause some pilling in knit garments.
How do you wash a Nano Puff?
Nano Puff is an insulated jacket that is made out of 100% Recycled polyester and insulated with PrimaLoft® synthetic insulation. It can be washed into a front-loading washing machine, in a permanent press setting, using a mild laundry detergent. Warm water of around 105°F / 40°C should be used, on a gentle cycle.
What can I use instead of down wash?
We recommend using Nikwax Down Wash for your jacket, but a gentle detergent like Woolite will work in a pinch. For down wash, I recommend using Granger Down Wash, Gear Aid ReviveX Down Wash, or Nikwax Down Wash. I’ve used them all and they work very well.
Can you wash a down jacket with regular detergent?
There are 3 things you’ll need to wash your down jacket: down soap, a front load washer, and a dryer with reliably low heat. While you can use regular detergents, they can strip away the natural oils in down and don’t always rinse out cleanly so I recommend using a cleaner specifically designed for down.
